In a move set to propel the Eastern Cape's economic development, the Automotive Industry Development Centre Eastern Cape (AIDC-EC) has joined forces with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) to establish an EV Value Chain Incubator. The two entities signed a lease agreement on Friday, the 6th of December 2024 for this innovation to be hosted at the SABS Testing Facilities in East London.
This innovative hub will serve as a launchpad for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the automotive and related sectors. By providing a tailored suite of services, including training, mentorship, and access to funding and markets, we aim to empower these businesses to drive growth, innovation, and job creation.
The agreement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2022, co-signed with a shared commitment to fostering a vibrant and competitive regional economy by leveraging AIDC-ECs collective expertise and resources. This initiative will have a profound and lasting impact on the Eastern Cape's economic landscape.
AIDC-EC is passionate about unlocking the full potential of the region's automotive sector. This groundbreaking partnership with the SABS marks a significant milestone in our journey to promote economic growth, innovation, and prosperity in the Eastern Cape.
